Ain't Safe Mondays
Now, I'm pretty sure that everyone reading this post knows what a mixtape is. Just in case someone doesn't, you can read the definition here. When a rap artist creates a mixtape, he/she is usually rapping to instrumentals that are widely popular because they are from songs that famous artists have released. The artist can do this as long as the mixtape is free and for promotional use only. Otherwise, they can be sued for copyright infringement.
This past Monday my producer (Lil Brudda) and I released a new type of mixtape song. Instead of just rapping to the entire instrumental of another artist, Lil Brudda puts his own spin to the beat as the song progresses and the entire track just switches up. I usually only write or rap to original beats but it is fun to rap to a familiar mixtape track especially when the track is dope! In the same way that rap artists say they are paying respect to other rap artists when they recycle a bar or a phrase, we are giving props to the producers who made the tracks that we switch up. The name of the song we released is called Lil Mama (Commas Remix). So far, the response on the track has been awesome. I would love to hear your feedback as well. You can hear the song by clicking here.
The hashtag we are using for this new style of mixtape is #ASM which stands for "Ain't Safe Monday." We plan to release a new song every Monday that has a ridiculous switch up within the song. We chose "Ain't Safe Monday" because we want everyone out there to know that their beats ain't safe. If we get ahold of it we will flip it and make it classic (not that it already wasn't, lol). If any of the artists or producers out there who hear us switch up their track and want to collab, hit me up. Lets work! The next track I am about to release this upcoming Monday is called "Monster." Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for it.
